Job Description:
The Barrett’s Bagels market team is a small but mighty team of very flexible, detail oriented, high energy individuals that take on the wave of crowds at our Sunday market. We typically serve well over 1,000 bagels in just a few hours. This role can be stressful as we have a huge volume of hungry market goers who begin lining up well before the market opens. To be successful in this position food service experience is less valuable than being communicative, flexible, high energy, and driven to give market attendees a great experience. We work extremely closely with each other and always keep a positive attitude throughout the market. This is a small business in a very intimate environment, being ready for whatever is the only way to be!
Responsibilities may include:
-setting up market booth
-taking orders through POS system
-making bagels + cream cheese, packaging bagels to go, assembling hot sandwiches
-interacting with customers
-monitoring supplies of bagels as we head towards selling out
-supporting team members in their given roles to lower wait times
-cleaning up market booth at the end of the market
Related Experience:
-food service or customer service is helpful
-farmers market experience is a bonus
-no baking experience required
About Barrett’s Bagel’s:
Hello, my name is Ben Anderson, I own and operate this market bagel business. I have been baking bread for years in Madison, as well as cooking and farming. Our bagels are all made by me using primarily locally sourced ingredients. Entering into year 3 we are a full blown event at the Monroe Street Farmer’s Markets. I believe in paying generously, supporting my staff, teaching, sharing in the business operations and growing together. My business is nothing without a strong staff that shares similar values, generosity, hospitality, and joy. Joining our team is accepting that we are figuring this out as we go, that is part of the fun!
